Summit - Product or Service Innovation award

Innovation is the key to success. In the companion animal industry, this rings especially true as we strive towards a safer, healthier and happier existence for pets and pet families.

Sponsored by Petsmart Charities of Canada, the Product or Service Innovation award recognizes excellence in a product, service or program that improves the overall health, wellness and/or quality of life of animals in pet families, a particular client base, a community or any industry sector(s).

At the 2011 International Summit for Urban Animal Strategies (ISUAS), Dr. Judith Samson and Animal Rescue Foundation, AB received this distinguished award. After reviewing the scientific literature, Samson started a pilot project involving the reserve dogs in Alberta; a contraceptive implant is used as a quick, non-surgical, cost-effective way to control the feral dog population. This practice, if successful, could be used around the world where access to veterinary hospitals for spay and neuter programs is not common.
